Description

Daimler-Benz Museum in Stuttgart-Untertuerkheim Brochure. Original.

The celebration of 75 years of automotive engineering by Daimler-Benz in 1961 provided an occasion worthy of opening a new automobile museum. A collection of historical objects was started already in the days of Gottlieb Daimler, Karl Benz and Wilhelm Maybach.

This collection increased in the course of time. For many years, however, it was closed to the public, being used exclusively for design study and patent research work. In 1936, the year in which the Damiler-Benz Corporation witnessed its 50th anniversary in the field of automotive engineering, it was decided to release a substantial portion of the collection for display to customers and business friends. Regrettably, the effects of World War II were keenly felt when in 1945 many objects of historical value, which had been evacuated to other parts of the country, were irretrievably lost. After the restoration of Daimler-Benz, it became possible to select a sutiable site so as to enable the company to make what had remained of the collection accessible to the public; it goes without saying that every effort was made to enlarge the number of exhibits. The lively interest reflected in the ever-increasing number of visitors from home and abroad encouraged the Daimler-Benz Corporation to provide an impressive setting in form of a new museum.

Included bus directions as well as hours for the museum (at the time).

Condition: Shows a bit of wear, but in pretty good shape for its age.
