1988 Maserati Biturbo Si Sales Brochure with Fuel Injection Sales Brochure. Original.
Maserati engineers chose the system of twin turbochargers as a no compromise solution to maximize performance and to assure long engine life with high reliability. The use of twin turbos reduces heat build up in critical parts of the engine due to the reduction of the masses involved.
These technical solutions eliminate problems associated with a single turbocharger i.e. "turbo lag" or in other words the inertia of a turbocharger at low to medium r.p.m. By using twin turbos, turbo lag is reduced by 75% thus enabling the engine to respond immediately and progressively to the throttle.
