1997 Ford Powertrain Control Emissions Diagnosis Service Manual ODB-II. ORIGINAL.
Note: On Board Diagnostics II (OBD-II or ODB2) is an advanced/improved technology to ODB-I (OBD1). OBD-II provides better and more standardized vehicle protocols and system checks data. OBD-I needs a corded connection and the port is usually found under the hood, while an OBD-II port is usually located within a couple of feet of the steering wheel and data will often be accessed via an ODB-II adapter that supports Bluetooth or Wi-Fi connectivity.
Information contained within this official Ford Motor Company reference manual provides the user a step-by-step approach for diagnosing drivability, emission and power train control system symptoms. This manual should be used in conjunction with other Shop Manuals and Wiring Diagrams, which are NOT included.
Appropriate service methods and procedures are essential for the safe, reliable operation of all motor vehicles as well as the personal safety of the individual doing the work. This manual provides general directions for performing service with tested, effective techniques. Following them will help assure reliability. There are numerous variations in procedure, techniques, tools and parts for servicing vehicles, as well as in the skill of the individual doing the work. This manual cannot possibly anticipate all such variations and provide advice or cautions as to each. The descriptions and specifications contained in the manual were in effect at the time of publication.
